Sales at the development have soared since its launch in September, and now the last of the houses are being marketed for sale with just four Spruce designs and one detached Hawthorn house type available. Rob Allen, sales director for Persimmon Homes South Coast, comments: “This really is the last chance for Chichester citizens to secure a Persimmon house. The next and final phase at Richmond Gate will comprise of 18 apartments, catering for an entirely different demographic so interested parties really must act quickly or face disappointment. “The demand for our traditional family homes has left us astounded and shows no sign of slowing down, and we are confident these five properties will not be on the market for long." | | | Fir floors in Victorian's kitchen old, dangerous | | Posted Wednesday, December 13, 2006 1:06:16 PM by Blog57 Team | | Q: I need help with a wooden kitchen floor in an Alameda Victorian. The interior of the house hasn't seen too many improvements -- most of the original woodwork is intact, including the floors. Throughout the main level, there's 3-inch-wide Douglas fir flooring. It's OK in most of the rooms, but the kitchen is showing signs of abuse. We have four children and an elderly Labrador, and the kitchen opens directly onto the back deck. There are soft spots in some places, which we know how to shore up, but the edges of the planks are splitting. There is also evidence of repair in the form of putty, but sometimes big chunks or strips come up. Water from general use in the kitchen is spilled frequently. Needless to say, the finish, in the kitchen especially, is more or less nonexistent....

Luke Rychter was said to have a "fascination" with knives, and it was this obsession which triggered the unprovoked attack on Grant Douglass, 16. The teenagers were among a group of friends who spent the evening drinking together and Rychter was described as being "in a mood" and argumentative. He plunged a knife with a 20cm blade he was using to make a cheese sandwich into Douglass's chest and then ran off leaving him for dead. Earlier he had slashed another youth across the stomach, causing superficial injuries, Leeds Crown Court was told. Douglass was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital....

| | | Miami inmate's death prompts concerns over jail kitchen | | Posted Sunday, November 12, 2006 3:18:12 AM by Blog57 Team | | MIAMI Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at a Miami jail. Officials say 22-year-old complained of stomach pains before his death Tuesday. A number of other inmates at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center have also complained of stomach pains. That has led jail officials to call on health department authorities to review the jail kitchen's sanitary conditions. In June, dozens of inmates and three staffers at the jail fell ill and the kitchen was forced to temporarily shutter. And in February, investigators found raw sewage was seeping through the cracked kitchen floor. Copyright 2006 Associated Press. All rights reserved. | | | Beware of fine print, omissions in kitchen-remodeling packages | | Posted Sunday, November 05, 2006 11:09:22 AM by Blog57 Team | | We recently came across an ad for an "unbelievable" kitchen-remodeling package for just under $10,000. The photo showed a lovely kitchen, and offered a free sink with presentation of the ad. Upon closer examination, we noticed a small asterisk next to the price. The fine print so referenced said the base package included removal and disposal of existing cabinets and countertops; installation of up to 12 cabinets; two 8-foot slab granite countertops with a bullnose edge and 4-inch backsplash (choice of three colors); cutouts in the slab for a sink and faucet; and installation of sink and faucet. Sounds pretty good, right? But there's no way to end up with a completely remodeled kitchen for that price. Here are some details the ad failed to include - new appliances, for example.... | |
